Understand the material setup

Open Materials in your workspace. The catalog can include products, variants, and fence systems. A system connects the parts needed for a fence, such as panels, posts, gates, and hardware.

Your account may use a connected supplier catalog, your own material library, or both. Available views and editing controls depend on your permissions and the material workflow enabled for the account.

Check a product or system

1. In Materials, use Search the library to find the material or fence system. Open its details.
2. Review the name, SKU, purchase unit, dimensions, and available variants.
3. Check component relationships and quantities for the fence system, including gates and supporting parts.
4. Confirm cost inputs and the contractor’s selling-price settings. Keep supplier-owned source values under the applicable source controls.
5. Try a representative estimate and review its parts list and total before using the setup with customers.

Keep cost, markup, and margin distinct

Cost is what the material costs your business. Selling price is what you charge. Markup measures the increase relative to cost; margin measures the difference relative to selling price. They use different denominators.

For example, a $100 cost and $125 selling price produce a $25 difference, a 25% markup, and a 20% margin. Review the field label before entering a percentage. Labor and other project costs also affect the result.

Review changes before quoting again

Check which library and system the estimator uses. If an item is unavailable, confirm its catalog visibility and status, variants, component relationships, and your role’s access. Verify an estimate after a price or configuration change; don’t assume an earlier proposal updates automatically.
